Vaccinations & Parasite Control

The health and safety of the dogs in our care is our highest priority above everything else. As such, we require all dogs entering our facilities and participating in our dog walking program to be vaccinated against the most common canine afflictions.

  • Required vaccines: Rabies, Distemper, Hepatitis (canine adenovirus), Parvovirus, Leptospirosis, Parainfluenza and Bordetella (aka Kennel Cough).

  • Recommended treatments: Flea and Tick Control

After the initial series, your dog will still need periodic boosters, with the frequency being determined by your veterinarian and based on your dog’s age, lifestyle, and other risk factors.

If your dog is due for a booster, it should ideally be done at least 2 weeks before their stay at Lucky Dogs to allow them to build up the best immunity prior to visiting.

How to Check Your Pet's Vaccination Passport

RABIES VACCINATIONS SECTION

  • ​Rabies: The rabies vaccine is mandated by Luxembourgish law and required every 3 years.

OTHER VACCINATIONS SECTION

(Usually starts on or around page 24)

  • ​Distemper / Hepatitis / Parvovirus: These diseases are covered by a combination vaccine. Look for the characters DAP or DHP, SHP or CHP in your vaccination passport. (for example, DHP, DAPPi, or SHPPi).

  • Leptospirosis: This vaccine is normally referred to as “L4” or “Lmulti” in your vaccination passport. It can sometimes be included in the same shot as the Rabies vaccination in which case it would appear in the Rabies Vaccinations section of your pet's vaccination passport.

  • Bordetella / Parainfluenza: This combination vaccine is commonly referred to as “Kennel Cough”. Look for the characters “Bb/Pi” or “KC” or "PNEUMO" in your pet's vaccination passport. This vaccination is *not* commonly given by veterinarians unless specifically requested because it is not mandatory unless your pet is staying in a boarding or doggie daycare environment.

PARASITE PREVENTION

We request that all dogs visiting our creche and/or boarding be on a prevention program that covers them for external parasites like fleas and ticks, as well as internal parasites like heartworms and intestinal worms.
